  • The inability to get fuel into the tank usually comes from either a stuck check ball that prevents fuel from getting in, or a blocked air vent that prevents air from getting out. This is not an inherent characteristic of Jeep or the Renegade - I have no issues filling our Renegade at all, I just put the nozzle in and turn it on.

I have narrowed the fix action to a few options: the vent line is blocked (unlikely); the charcoal canister is not properly venting gas fumes and is causing back pressure and needs to be replaced or is leaking charcoal and blocking venting in the T line or what is causing back pressure (maybe); the roll over valve has a design flaw and is causing problems with the fill process (very likely).

This has happened a couple of times to me with our 2017 jeep renegade. My go to solution, pull the fuel out just a little bit, then start pumping. Gas nozzles detect that the tank is full through a tube in the handle that creates a vacuum. Gas vapors can prematurely trigger this mechanism, and i’ve found that simple not inserting the nozzle as far into the tank usually solves this problem.
